    Looks interesting indeed.

I wonder exactly how water resistant it is. Same goes for its supposed breathability.

Could maybe help prevent silnylon misting issues? Seam sealing benefits?

Any of the chemically and technically schooled members of BPL know anything about this?

From the limited information in the article it looks like they developed a room temp sol-gel process for coating surfaces. There is a gas phase process that creates a silica surface that is used to line stainless steel tubing and sample collection vessels to render them "inert". You can even use it on some plastics and fabrics. The gas phase process creates a very durable surface but it will wear off. If they have created the same type of surface using a liquid phase application it could be a very effective product. My guess would be that you would have to re-apply the coating similar to the DWR finishes that exist today.

This spray has nothing to do with silicone.

It's a suspension of silicon dioxide (aka sand) in alcohol or water.
