Ran across a new product called the Jakpak today. It doesn't look like it's ready for serious use yet, but it's nice to see people innovating toward more multi-use gear. I'd love to hear of any hands-on experience with it. Gizmodo says it weighs 3 lbs, but I can't verify that on the website.
It appears to be a rain jacket that has an attached half bag for lower body and an unattached bivy in the back pocket.
The big storage pocket in the back is in the low back right where your backpack is supposed to land.
That gear combination (rain jacket and insulation) for a multiuse item seems a bad idea.
