While I never been a big fan of "military oriented equipment"
But I just discover this all-in-one
"bivy/tarp/waterproof coat"which seems promising …
http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/tag/outdoor-research/
And the new gore cloth seems interesting too
¿someone knows more bivis like that one???

Looking at the militarytimes.com article, it reminded me of the combination poncho, blanket and sleeping bag sold by idigear.com and made of an Inovative Designs product named Insultex. It is a thin foam that supposedly is waterproof and transmits water vapor in only one direction (out) and is much hyped. Thought about ordering the item for $89 to try, but was advised by Lawson on an earlier thread that it would not add any significant R value to a sleeping bag.
The two products do sound very similar.
