Bivies: BMW vs. Equinox vs. Ti Goat

I’ve used both the Equinox and BMW bivys. I haven’t seen the Ti Goat product.

In my experience, the Equinox top fabric has even *greater* air permeability than the BMW Quantum Fabric. The big difference is in the design of the sacks — the BMW is roomy with a bugnet; the Equinox is short(!) and snug with a side zip.

The girth will be very important to me as I am a side sleeper and will probably want to have my pad in the bivy.

The maximum girths of the bivies are as follows:

BMW: 76″
Equinox: 66″
Ti Goat (regular): 60″
Ti Goat (large): 70″

I was recently going through a similar dilemma and opted for the Equinox on price alone. It’s better quality than I expected, the DWR seems decent (although I’m gonna add some). I’m 5’8, it probably would be too short for someone taller. Will post a review after I get back from an upcoming trip.

I’ve got the Ti Goat and it’s a great value. It is well-constructed and the size large is perfect for me (6′ 200 lbs) and my quilt, plus room to wear additional clothes. Maybe on the roomy side.

I doubt the extra money is really worth it.

Equinox: no
Ti Goat: yes

2) Girth

Equinox: half length side zip
Ti Goat: chest zip

Looks like a size large Ti Goat is in my future.
