Posted tonight by Kevin (?) at the “backpacking.net” web site, thanks Kevin.

==============================
$1.94 at Wal-mart. Total weight is 0.5 oz, 0.3 oz just for the little carabiner, so replace that if you would like with an even smaller one.

It’s a HYDR8R brand H 2 O Ring Bottle Holder.

Pull H 2 O Ring over bottle top using tab.
Make sure H 2 O Ring is entirely below cap and bottle ring.
Rubber ring should stretch for proper fit.
Attach carabiner to desired location.

I tried to shake the full Dr Pepper bottle off. It didn’t come off. Pretty dang strong.

Neat gizmo!
=============================

I went to my local Wal Mart (sporting goods dept) and bought two. These are my pictures.

I am going to replace the snap link with something like a glove hook and use a lighter weight replacement for the webbing. That should drop the stock weight by half or more.

While a novel idea and certainly functional, I would think that the bottle would tend to flop around with every step you took. I think I’d get very tired of that very fast.

To each his own; I’ll stay with my internal Platypus bladder system.

Nice idea there Bill. But I kinda agree that bottle bouncing around would drive me nuts.

Simple matter to add a 1/8″ bungee [with optional mini-cord lock] to secure the lower end of the bottle to the pack strap [webbing] to eliminate swinging.

Hey, AR’s bungee water bottles to their pack straps and they are moving much faster on and off trail than I ever will.

I use a bandanna around a 1.5 liter bottle. I clip biners thru the upper and lower bandanna knots and clip it to my pack webbing. It doesn’t really bounce but may gently roll left to right… not too annoying. If I used a spare piece of small rope it would secure it tightly to the webbing.

The “cool” thing about the bandanna/biner setup… besides the fact that I would already be carrying them, is that in summer I can wet the bandanna and keep the water cooler a little longer in between fill ups.

Neat and clean, but how about a little line and a mini-biner?

Someone mentioned shock cord and a toggle to help stabilize it. This is one of those areas where a little macrame can go long way. Tying small nets or pockets is actually a simple thing to do and the weight savings are very nice, not to mention the cost. I use braided seine twine and you can find braided mason’s twine with some looking. I haven’t tried Spectra and I should.

I make a percussion instrument called a shekere that is traditionally made from a gourd with a net of beads. I have substituted polycarbonate water bottles for the gourd and I have DIY instructions at Shereke instructions . You’ll see my point. It would be very easy to tie up beavertails and other pack accessories. Once you get the first row set up, it goes easily. I can tie up a net with 1000 beads in a couple evenings. It’s a great pastime for a winter afternoon.
