do tarps need seam sealing?

Does a silnylon tarp need to be seam sealed? In my limited tarp use I have not yet had leaks.

Yes and no. It depends on what you buy. For instance, I own the ID Siltarp2 which requires seam sealing. This is because it's basically two tarps sewn together. You would only be required to seal the center seam. This is noted by the manufacturer, and seam sealant is included with purchase. Keep in mind the added weight from the sealant. I also own the ID Siltarp. It has no seams, so there is no need to seal anything… which is the case with most tarps on the market.
