Tom,
is your "Big aluminum beverage can" a beer can, or do they sell something else that you've used for this purpose?

Just curious because I don't like the recent discussions of "leaching" from my heiny can into my boiled water that I'll be using for ~40 days straight next year.

Just being generic, I never buy any beer there, so don't know if they have the Fosters or Heineken cans. I'm sure they have some kind of beverage in a can!

"Which knife sharpener do you get there?"

I got a little yellow pinch sharpener with ceramic rods on one side and carbide on the other. It's 44 g. I bought it with the intention of packing with it.

After our lengthy discussion about knives a few months ago, I haven't be carrying knives much any more except sometimes a rope wrench when I go climbing. My sharpener almost never goes with.

If you're not allergic :) and don't have celiac sprue (BTW, not an allergy!).

Allergy/anaphylaxis refers to Type 1 hypersensitivity. The culprit is generally a large molecule, most likely a protein. Many people (and doctors without a basic understanding of immunology) apply this term to various patient dislikes or sensitivities. Patients like to be given a dx for their efforts and expense.

High blood levels of many elements can cause problems. Hypercalcemia is a relatively common clinical scenario that can lead to serious sequelae. This is not an allergy to calcium.

"The Outdoor Products trekking poles with the flick locks are really decent, they're only like 9 oz and $14 each. "

I got those for my wife and son. They seem well made and the flip locks work very well.

Seems like a lot of you have had better luck than me with Wal-Mart, most everything I bought there has since been replaced… tent, stuff sacks, trekking poles (that fell apart), energizer headlamp which is cheap and *works* but it lacks the small visor like extrusion my petzl tikka has which blocks the light from shining into my peripheral vision, it seems trite but it drives me crazy! So far to me most of the time you get what you pay for excluding certain occasions when things are way overpriced. Your experiences will (and obviously do) vary, hope everything keeps working better for you all than me!
