I'm trying to cook up a holiday wish list and I've been eying the BodyFit260 Leggings and Tech Top.

They'd be used for winter camping / hiking in the Midwest USA. For temperature examples, right now (12:54pm) it is 33 degrees F. Further into the winter, we have temps of 10 – 15 on a normal basis.

Do these products sound useful? Trying to justify the price….

Well, yes. I need baselayers. I'm just not sure if these are 'the ones' or not.

I love my Icebreaker. The 260 is a little heavy for me for actual hiking, even in the winter. But realize that I'm in NC, not the Midwest. And I tend to sweat like a pig even in very cold weather. My lovely wife wears the 260 as her winter base layer and loves it.

I’ve got a Icebreaker GT 260 Rapid Leggings (Size S = 223 g) and a Bodyfit 200 top (Size S = 190 g) and they’re good quality. I haven’t worn them yet a lot, so can’t give you deep insights on them. However, I have worn my Woolpower 200 long johns and long sleeves very much, and they’re really excellent. I also own a Smartwool Microweight Zip T and long johns and also value them very highly.

I wear both of those sets in the 0°C till -30°C range and am fine in them, although extra insulation in really cold weather is always welcome, so you might be better off in the Icebreaker 260.

So in case you’re looking for us to allowing you to go shopping, please go ahead, you’ll enjoy the comfort and warmth of your new merino underwear!

Wool is great, but if you're looking for something to wear as an active layer the 260-weight is probably too warm. 200-is weight or lower might be worth checking out then, esp. for the top. But it all depends… if you tend to run cold, and your activity level will be relatively low, then the 260 could work well… Also note that the bodyfit is a relatively snug fit…
