Looking for light down bag, and with my member coupon I can get the Beeline http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47985196 rated at 30 degrees for about $220 or the WM Caribou http://www.westernmountaineering.com/index.cfm?section=Products&page=Sleeping%20Bags&cat=Microfiber%20Series&viewpost=2&ContentId=23 for about $230 locally (with Boy Scout discount from my local retailer:))

Anyone done the comparisons, or could I hear from you if you have one of the two bags on why you think I should select it? Thanks!

Have been scoping the marmot hydrogen for similar price w/ REI coupon, you might want to check it out.

The Caribou is a great ultralight down bag. It weighs 1lb 4 oz and packs down to a loaf of bread. The 35 degree rating sounds accurate, I stayed very warm in mine for a nite in the mid twenties with a fleece liner. The micro fibre shell is very water resistant. You will like this bag.

Generally I think WM and Marmot both make better down bags than TNF. North face do make great synthetic bags however. Of course, no one else’s opinion means anything if one bag fits you better than another. Personally I would never consider buying a bag w/out going in, with all my clothing, laying the bag out and crawling inside. If I had to order two bags and send one back, then I would. That said, I don’t own one but the Caribou is a VERY nice bag. I’d buy it sight-unseen before the beeline any day.

I have the WM Versalite and love it. I have not used the Caribou but given the quality of my bag I can assume you will not be disappointed. It lofts like a cloud.

I notice the Beeline does not have a zipper. This may be an issue for you. I personally think the weight of a zipper is worth it. It makes the bag more versatile.

I have a WM Caribou and have been very pleased with it. The sewn-through construction, full-length zipper, and Quantum liner are fantastic for breathability when you’re on the warm side of the scale. In cold weather the hood does the trick. I’ve found the 35 degree rating to be accurate.

Quality is top notch as always with WM. Highly recommended!

I have the last year’s Beeline, which is very nice bag, but I realized quick that I didn’t like not having a zipper (WAY TOO HOT). I ended up taking it to a local seamstress and had it chopped into a quilt ala a Nunatak arc. Guess this doesn’t sound too good for the Beeline, eh? I think a zipper is worth the weight.

I have the Western Mountaineering Flight Vest. I love their product but I chose the North Face Beeline 900 over the Caribou. I like the hood on the Beeline better. I like the foot zipper so I can move around in the bag in the morning. I am a cold sleeper so I don’t mind not having a side zipper. If I get hot I take off clothes. If I take them all off and I’m still hot then I don’t need a sleeping bag that night. REI has the best return policy so I would try each one out and keep the bag clean and decide for yourself which fits you best.

Another Vote for the Caribou…
Outstanding Bag. Impeccable quality.
