Yeah, I'm 5'-10" too. Where does the top of the large fall in regards to your body? Is it over your head?

Had they had an Ultra 20 long, I would have been veeery happy. However, thinking about it I checked golite's site like 4 days ago and they only had size short even then…
Did anyone get a deal on one besides short?

The short fits to 5'6" the regular to 6', and the large to 6'6". I am 6' tall and have the regular.

Earlier today I had an online special item in the cart and it applied the discount to it, but now it won't. It does however seem to be working for full priced items. If anyone needs a Shangri-la 3 inner tent (Hex 3) for some reason it comes up as regular price of $125, so the discount price is only $75.

The size regular comes up to my chin. I use it in conjunction with a Backpacking Light PRO 90 Balaclava. Last weekend I used it down to 26* and was toasty warm.

>40% eh? Gives you some idea of their profit margin.

40% off isn't that much considering that GoLite is primarily a manufacturer (as opposed to being a retailer). GoLite dealers likely buy GoLite products at 50% below MSRP, so Golite is actually making larger margin on this sale than if you went and paid full retail for the same item at a store selling Golite.

The normal retail margins for a $100 item would be that it costs the manufacturer (ie. GoLite) about $25 to make and they normally sell it to their dealers (ie. REI) for $50 and then the dealer trys to sell it for $100 MSRP if they can. Manufacturers love when they can bypass the dealers and make a larger portion of the profit, but they need dealers and it's hard to do this without upsetting them. That's why they normally have to sell for the same price as the dealers but they can afford to sell for much less.

>They should also maybe change their name to "GoNotSoLiteAnymore

They pretty much have. Their new slogan is that they make gear that is 'lite on the planet', so they've spun the meaning from lightweight to environmentally friendly. Check out their 'values' on the website. They don't even claim their new gear is light weight anymore.

Golite is doing the factory sale again starting tomorrow, Saturday & Sunday. I might go. They are advertising jam2's for $37 and some other deals.

If I go I will post the price sheet.

Peter, are you paying attention? We're counting on you! ;-)

I went to the sale today. Lots of deals, lots of non UL stuff though. I did pick up an old style Jam2 for me, a new Jam (with the side pockets) for the wife and a Shangri La 3 (the new version of the hex 3) for barely more than $125!

I think Ion's were selling for $15, Jam's for $37 or $50 depending women's or men's. There is tax @ 8% or a little more.

Chris –

I'm so jealous! I would have loved to pick up a Jam for myself. Seems like some great deals!

Peter,
If you don't mind the hassle of sending things off by mail, I'll take a GoLite Ion pack – Medium or, if none, Large. Any color.
I live in Cleveland, a bit too far of a drive.
Thanks,

Note to self: How to make friends here–Find a local sale that nobody else can get to, and take a bunch of orders! Brilliant!

Hey guys,

I didn't make it to the sale today. Sorry guys I hate to disappoint. I did buy some things for members last factory sale and it worked out fine but, I got burned on a $125 purchase by a non-membership member so not sure I want to go thru that again.

Not a attack on non-members just telling a story. They have another one in the spring so maybe then.

Anyone else experiencing an Expired SSL certificate when adding items to their shopping cart at golite.com?

PostedDec 14, 2009 at 6:09 pm

yeah I have tried all day and it has been messed up. I did the live chat thing and they said they were having problems and to try back later. That was 6 hrs ago

Other than a few of the web special items, looks like they should change the company name to Go-Heavy.
