Hi all! A friend and I want to start planning a backcountry fly-fishing / hiking trip in the spring. We've got all the UL backpacking gear, but now putting together our fishing kits (Tenkara for sure!) and trying to figure out a destination.

We're based in central OH and looking for something that is driveable within 6-8 hours. For hiking trips, we usually head over to WV or VA (AT, Sods, etc), so I'm looking for ideas where we could tie up a few days of hiking and fly-fishing together. Looking for clear streams and few people, so would definitely appreciate any thoughts!

Thanks for the suggestions and Happy Holidays!

Cranberry river near Marlinton WV has all the hiking and fishing your looking for.

Greenbriar river also has many opportunities.

Sorry for the delayed thanks — been a rough past few months…Cranberry Wilderness does look like a good option.

We are also adding the Smokeys to our list of options. Our preference is to find a location that has a bit of elevation as well as some good streams.

Other suggestions?

Thanks!!
