I haven't seen much (any) talk of the Marmot Nano rain jacket around here. At 8oz, it seems like a good contender for many of the the rain jackets currently in use. Plus it's got some killer features (have you seen those zippers?!).

I'm considering getting one and layering it with a baselayer and Mont-Bell UL Down Parka. Thoughts?

Yes, at 8 oz the nano is a good jacket. However, I'd put money on the probability of people gravitating towards the Mica or Essence, given that they are about 1 ounce less, and more than $100 cheaper! $250 is just too pricey for a rain shell.

Being a Gor-Tex jacket gains some points though. If I got it, I would be using it for rain and an outer layer in snow.

$250 is quite a bit, but with the many 20% coupons always floating around, it becomes a bit tempting.

Anyways… still interested in everyone's opinion.

A lot of that money goes to pay for the goretex name. From what I've heard, it doesnt seem to perform much better than anything else, often times worse. If you are going to drop some money, go with eVent. The 9 oz integral designs jacket may be a great choice. Way more breathable.

For less ($214.) I'd go for the heavier REI eVent parka and have a much more useable item.
