For anyone out there with ray-way quilt experience:
What is the aproximate packed size of the quilt?
Thanks,
-Dave:)
Mar 20, 2006 at 6:26 pm #1352977I put my jardine-style quilt in my pack liner, so there is not stuff sack dedicated to the quuilt itself, but if I were using a stuff sack, I would use one for 1000 cuin (16 liters). Though you can certainly pack the quilt smaller or let it expand bigger.
Alternatively, plan on about twice as much space as for a down quilt/bag.

I’ll second that estimate. I added an Extra Layer 3D to my Deluxe 1-Person Quilt and the packed volume is about 19 liters.

I hope it will fit in either a ULA Conduit or a SMD Essence pack!-Dave:)

Not because they are Ray-Way quilts, but because it’s not good to over-compress synthetic insulation (Polarguard 3D, in this case). I suppose I could put it in a compression sack and squish it close to the size of a down quilt, but I don’t want to make a new quilt every year. I _need_ that loft in the winter. I think you’ll find similar recommendations from other synthetic quilt manufacturers. (See “Beyond Backpacking”, p. 96 “Preserving loft” for Ray’s opinion on compression.)
