I am considering purchasing an UV water purifier like the SteriPEN Adventurer.

However, as already discussed many times, a LED device would be very advantageous.

Does anyone have any information that may appear soon a device based on UV LEDs (apart from the muv)?

Hi Marco,

I'll defer to our electronics expert Roger on whether we're approaching UV LEDs energetic enough to treat water (the last time I checked they were not yet there). I will note that the mUV uses a small incandescent UV bulb, not an LED.

If and when they arrive, LED UV should greatly increase the flexibility and attractiveness of UV treatment. I'm especially hoping for better performance with cold water.

Cheers,

Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the comment on mUV, you’re right.

Besides its effectiveness, for me the biggest advantage of UV technology is its immediacy. Although the device is quite heavier than chemicals, provides treated water instantly, so you can dramatically reduce the amount of carried water… and this is a true weight savings!

Cheers.

Oh Yeah!

>UV LED Steripens that use 1/10th the power of current Steripens.

>Totally breathable but waterproof/fireproof fabric from nanotechnology for tents and clothing.

>Hiking BOOTS (waterproof/breathable) weighing 1 lb./ pair.

>1 lb., 3500 cu. in. internal frame packs that are totally waterproof aand very durable.

>Rechargable batteries that last twice as long per charge as regular lithium batteries and perform the same.

>Solid fuel 3X as hot as ESBIT

>Self-inflating, R-4 air mattresses of Cuben fabric and special foam, all weighing 1/2 of a Neo-Air regular.

IT'S ALL IN THE NEAR FUTURE BOYS AND GIRLS! We want it, the military wants it and the research is always on-going.
