Does anyone have experience with using a BA pad-sleeve style bag down to around 0 F with a non-BA mattress?
I'm concerned about the less than precise fit causing gaps in the insulation. I would like to use this bag with a Thermarest Prolite Plus short (1.5 in thick), a Ridgerest CCF pad, and an additional 3/8" generic blue CCF pad for below 0 F. Or, am I going to need a BA mattress with this bag?
I'm thinking of getting the Big Agnes Hahns Peak SL (-20 F, 800 fill down, mummy style) for winter backpacking. BA bags appeal to me because I'm a little bigger around the torso than average with a chest size around 48, I like a little more room in a bag to move around, and I assume the drafts under a quilt at 0 F would be rather uncomfortable. I like my 40 F synthetic quilt, but move around enough to cause drafts which wake me up–no big deal at 40 F, but I wouldn't want to deal with drafts like that at 0 F!
Edit: Also is there room in BA sleeves to add a Ridgerest CCF pad and a BA mattress?
