Here’s my first published skin-out gear list. It’s been quite an education!
Emphasis is on 3 season solo hikes below 5,000 feet in Western Washinton Cascades and Olympics. 3 days consumables here.
I can add more insulation with fleece or a polyfill sweater and I can reduce weight for summer by using a Lafuma 800 Extreme sleeping bag (28oz. total with 20 ounce reduction) and switching to shorts and wind pants (15.3oz. reduction w/o convertible pants and rain pants) to get a 12.85 pound base weight.

I know I’m heavier than some on my first aid kit, which I’m comfortable with.
Mar 20, 2006 at 1:23 pm #1352950Dale,
I was just wondering what you think of the Gatewood Cape. There hasnt been much talk about it since its release.

Mar 20, 2006 at 1:48 pm #1352952I haven’t been able to get it in the woods yet (grumble, whine…). That’s why I’ve had time to work on my lists and gear. Spring is here and it’s time to get outta town!
Mar 20, 2006 at 5:40 pm #1352973I can’t wait to get out myself Dale. I’ve got a Cape coming in a few days, and I’m as anxious as you are to get out there and try it. It won’t be much longer now….
