The new MEC Reflex Jacket (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442630551&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302699049&bmUID=1256668803948) claims a weight of 735g (26oz) and a fill weight of 430g (15oz). This, if true, would put it in the same realm as the Nunatak Torre Expedition (http://www.nunatakusa.com/site07/garments/torre.htm). I've had a chance to look at the Reflex and the baffles seem to vary from perhaps 1/3" in the arms to 1.5" in parts of the body. Can anyone with experience with both (or, more likely, an owner of a Torre Expedition or Kobuk Jacket within easy travel distance of an MEC store) compare the MEC jacket to the warmer options from Nunatak?

Nice to see MEC using 15 denier nylon and 800 down. I wish they would do this in their lighter down jkts (ie. the Highwire).
looks like it is sewn-through.
I can confirm that that at least the majority of the baffles are boxed.
Chris, any chance to use the MEC – was just in store and was very impressed with it.
I think that the claim of 430 g of fill is believable. In the 2000 MEC catalogue, they list the fill weight of the Bush Pilot as 385g of 550 fill in the medium– for a jacket that weighed 835 g and was made with much heavier fabric. They list the fill weight of the Aurora, again with heavier fabric (Dryloft membrane and all) as 330 g of 650 fill for an 805 g jacket. These were both medium. These are the antecedents of the Reflex jacket, a couple generations back.
If the 430 g fill weight corresponds to a large (note that the weight of the jacket is given for the large), and the fabrics are that much lighter, it doesn't seem so unbelievable to me (although it is supposed to be 800 fill).
Anyhow, they've got some ugly green ones on clearance right now, so I think I will check it out. For the price it could be unbelievable.
Has anyone put a medium on a scale and checked its real weight?
Ditto on the comment that it is nice to see MEC finally using 800 fill down and lighter weight fabrics. Their Northern Lite pullover could be a great article if they hadn't weighed it down with heavy fabric.
Cheers,
Michael
