I have a pair of inov-8 gtx boots and I love them. However, I just recently slipped and fell into a stream filling both boots up with water. It's the second time I've wetted them out. I could have thrown up when trying to dry them, they smelled horrendous. I don't have smelly feet and don't have many miles in them either. So, I know it's because I let the water sit too long or something. Any recommendations for getting rid of the smell? Can I wash them in a soap solution? Is there a powder to throw in under the soles? Anything would help. Thanks, Eric

Eric, try baking soda. Put several tablespoons in each boot, shake to coat the entire insides, then leave them in the garage overnight. Should help.

There is a product at a website called smellywasher.com. It is a powder you put in the water to soak your musty, moldy smelling towels, etc. It got that awful smell out of my stuff. Might work in shoes, too, if you don't mind having water in them for a day while the product kills the smell.

Try this enzyme cleaner. I bought it at KMart. About $6.00.
I wetted out the inside of the boots with the enzyme. Just dump it in and let it sit till the inside is soaked. Then, let it air dry. It might take several days. I did my rotten old boots and they then smelled like new. It’s the enzymes. They eat the bacterial cause of the smell. I’ve tried other products, this one seemed best and it has a good smell also. This technique always works for me:

-Wash with a very strong baking soda/hot water solution
-Put a sheet of fabric softener dryer sheet in there while it's drying.
