Hi All,

I wanted to post a few quick picks of my new shelter. I bought the Alpinlite Bug Tent 1.5 from the BPL forums and the Tarp is a brand new item from Alpinlite. The set includes the Bug Tent 1.5, Tyvek groundcloth, tarp, optional nanolite front and foot poles and stakes. Pretty simple to pitch, I need to move the bugtent forward about 5 inches and it'd be perfect. As I said, I'll have all the specs and a review after this coming weekend . . .but here's a few quick pictures:

Note the small size compared to a easton nano-stakeflying tarpbug tentflying nun

OK,

I don't have a working scale, so these are unconfirmed. I also am estimating the pole weight (based on the Quest web page)and you'll have to guess at the tyvek ground cloth weight. There are guylines with tensioners as well– I'm not weighing those :)

Bug Tent= 13.8 oz including seam sealing

Tarp=–(silnylon w/ extra silicon (1.45 oz per square yard versus the more traditional 1.3 for added rain proofing)= 14.3 oz including seam sealing

poles= @ 2.45 oz (maybe a little less based on measurement)- optional weight if you have trek poles

stakes= 10 grams each (I carry 12 of them) 1 for tarp front, 1 for tarp foot, 4 corners of tarp, 2 middle tarp (foul weather), 4 for bug tent/ground cloth

This should be really close. Gen also included silnylon pouches/bags for all components.

Nice. Gen does some excellent work.

Looking forward to the specs.

Yep,

Thats a zipper on the beak. Gen's stuff is good to go. I dont think there is anything wimpy in the whole setup. Nice thing is you can pitch in any combos (tarp only, tarp and tyvek groundcloth, bug tent only etc.)

In the event of foul weather, instead of pitching with guy lines, the stakes are put directly through the stake out loops on the two front wings and on the tail sides as well as the additional "foul weather" loops halfway down each side (middle wing).

I have alot more pics, just not with me. I'll put some more up soon. I also have a quilt by Tim Marshall and a Six Moons Designs Traveler pack to post pics/review of.

Yes, what are the weights? I'll have to look into that when the website is working again.

Nice setup. I use a similar setup with a Gossamer Gear SpinnShelter and a oversize Alpinlite bug tent Gen does great work. I am looking forward to the review.

oooh, i really like the idea of thicker silnylon for extra waterproofness. I wish more manufacturers did this. Is there are lot of tension on the zipper? Is there something else at the bottom of the zipper holding some of the tension?

I think this is more of manufacturer honesty than it is a designed fabric change. I assume the lot of silnylon he received had had more sil than normal and Gen is just making sure that everyone realizes that the material is heavier (and on a side note more waterproof) than normal. In my experience in working with Gen, he was genuinely concerned about me choosing the right product for my needs and getting exactly what I wanted.

On a side note – I think the tarp looks great!
