Epson has started mass production of a high res (1.44MP) EVF that has a new filter that eliminates colour smear during panning.
Nothing beats the clarity of a good optical view finder, however this is good news for the top of the line compact superzooms and the new EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) cameras.
