Has anyone had any experience w/ Mountain Laurel Designs Serenity Shelter? It looks like it would be ideal for protection from bugs under a tarp and would protect from rain on the open ends of the tarp. The weight appears good too.

Craig,
I’ve been wondering the same thing. For a full protection tarp, the weight of the Serenity Shelter seems wonderful….but no one seems to be using it/talking about it. Strange…
Dave:)
Hi, I have only sold a few of the new serenity shelters. The old one, a year ago, was the bug bivy. I put up the much improved Serenity Shelter on the site in late summer 05, so not many sales on it through the winter. I can also make it now in all nanoseum netting with a Spectralite.60 (Cuben like thin waterproof fabric) bottom at about 4oz total. A lot more cost though. Note that I am about 8 weeks in backorders. Thanks, Ron
and I love it but admit the serenity looks a little sweeter, but not enough of a difference for me to replace yet.
i would be curious about the 4oz solution you mentioned – what would ballpark cost be?
The lighter version will be around $155. The nanoseeum is about 2X the cost of reg net and the SpectraLite.60 is 5X the cost of silnylon. By combining it with a light solo tarp, the set up could be as low as 9 to 12oz for pretty good protection. For other questions, best to email me directly.-Ron
