Any expectations as far as subject matter, theme, etc. Do you want to highlight gear, backpacking/camping activities, locations, jaw-dropping scenery….or any and all of the above?

Also — must it have been taken while backpacking?

David: OPEN topics. You pick whichever theme or subject that makes your heart beat faster!

What do you mean by "UNCOMPRESSED" JPG? JPG is by its very nature lossily compressed and there is no way to make it not so.
If you want uncompressed you need to ask for TIFF files instead.

Ok, Bradley – I'm sorry about the delay!

Please output your JPGs at your software's "100% compression
quality" setting.

Hmm. Probably. But I'm not sure when – that email address doesn't come to me!
Thanks,
Addie

So does the photo have to be taken between the date the contest was announced and October 31st or can it be a photo that we've previously taken?

This doesn't matter – the deadline does! So send in what you've got, as we're not trying to send you out on assignment (unless that's what you want to tell the boss to get a day or two off).
