Dear friends,

We were carrying on a great Bivy discussion in an earlier post, which, at least for me, came down to the question of whether the new Big Agnes Three Wire Bivy Sack displaces (or not) the Integral Designs Unishelter as the best all-around Bivy Sack, as described in BPL's 2006 State of the Market report.

I just wanted to start one new thread here to see if anyone else has relevant experience or knowledge and cares to chime in.

Sincerely,
Aaron

I replied on the other thread as I did not notice this one before doing so.

I think that David "nailed it" in his last comment on that thread and, for those wanting a stand alone shelter, his preference-recommendation is the better option.

I usually prefer my eVENT South Col plus a Siltarp III for most hunting bivouacs and always carry this rig with me. For "planned" bivy camps while hunting, I have an ID Mega Sola plus Silwing, that is just outstanding in ANY wind, snow or whatever and given it's cost, I AIN'T buying ANYTHING new for about 42 years!

What's your opinion between the two in terms of "feeling outdoors" (yet bug-protected), when the weather's OK?

The BA appeals to me because it has so much more bug-netting, presumably allowing you to open up to the outdoors (and still be bug-protected). But I don't know if that is out-weighed by the fact that the "awning" is (or looks) so much bigger? (Seems like there would certainly be no gazing at the moon/stars – or gazing at much of anything – with that BA awning!?)

Which one leaves you feeling more "closed in"? and which one allows you more of a view and feeling of being outdoors (yet still be bug-protected), when weather permits?

Or does anyone have any other suggestions in this regard? (Seems like the MLD would be even worse, with such a small window?)

Thanks again for your advice.

Best,
Aaron

Aaron, I think you answered your own question. In my opinion, the more airy feeling goes to the BA because of, as you indicated, the additional second bug screen door and as well, more room in the head area.
