I've been looking at switching to a floorless pyramid tarp. So when I found a gently used Black Diamond Megamid at a local outdoor show for a price so low it was basically stealing, I pulled the trigger.

I'd also like to buy a net to protect against bugs when needed. However, weight is an issue. The Megamid is a little heavier than what I was looking for, but the rock bottom price was impossible to pass up. So I'm going with it (as always, money is an issue) and looking to save some weight in the net.

The Black Diamond Mega Bug will clearly keep out bugs, but at 42 oz., it's also quite heavy. I noticed Mountain Laurel Designs has some nets for their pyramid-shaped Mid series, and I was wondering if anyone has tried to use them inside a Megamid or Mega Light. Specifically the MLD Duo or Supermid Innernets. Based on my own measurements of the Megamid (approx. 100" cu. base x 57"-60"+ height) and the MLD Innernet specs (http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=127&osCsid=0ab2480edb982b74fd31d65f81fd5625 ), either should work, with the Duo resulting in a considerable vestibule effect.

Surprisingly, I can't seem to find anyone who has tested this out. Considering the Supermid net weighs less than half the weight of the Mega Bug, I'm definitely curious. This would bring the total weight for the Megamid tarp, pole, stakes, and MLD Innernet to 4 lbs. 12 oz. Not bad for a 3-4 person shelter w/ net.

Can anyone help me out?

Looks like I'm making this too difficult. I don't know how I missed this, but I just noticed the following on the MLD Innernet page:

"SuperMid size only fits the SuperMid and MOST OTHER BRAND PYRAMIDS for less weight."

So can anyone confirm that's true with the Black Diamond tarps? And I'm still curious if anyone has tried a Megamid / Mega Light + MLD Duo Innernet combo…

I haven't tried an MLD, mostly due to the cost. I sewed my own using a BD floor (before BD made their Megabug) It's possibly the simplest sewing project after a stuff sack. 13 straight seams if you want a double door, 12 if you want a single. If you have NO sewing skills, you might give Tim Marshall a call, to get something to your own specs. This would give you more space than a Duomid inner, as you essentially want an inner shaped like the Oware Alphamid.
