I'm starting a new tent made from silnylon. I would really prefer to not sear the edges if I don't have to. Will a have problem fraying like uncoated's do or am I ok not not sear?

Oct 3, 2009 at 4:16 am #1532623I never sear anything. I have only had one lot of silnylon that frayed at all and that wasn't much. Just do finished edges and everything will be fine.

Oct 3, 2009 at 12:07 pm #1532697For coated nylon (silnylon), searing may not be necessary. But uncoated frays very easily and does much better when seared. I made an alcohol lamp to do this.
