Here are two Jetboil cups. The older version is what appears to be a bare aluminum one whereas the newer cup is a much darker anodized finish (the picture fails to highlight the significance of the color difference).Comparison w/o flashComparison w/ flash

The older (lighter colored) cup weighs in about 5 ounces whereas the newer (darker colored) cup weighs in about 5.5 ounces.

That being said, what surprised me was the fact that the construction of the lighter cup is much better than the heavier one. It appears that the fins on the older cups have been made much stronger and sturdier. The new fins are slanted and assembled sloppily. It can also be bent and easily. The old fins hardly budge even if pried with a coin. In conclusion, here are the pictures of the fins:

I am not going mad, am I?

I suspect they have switched the manufacturer. Check for stress marks see if they match.

The stress marks match so I have no idea. I only need one of the cups so at this point, I'm just deciding which one I want to keep.

I bet they were the manufacturing company for Jetboil. The retail hasn't gone down. I mind as well buy directly from the source. My understanding is that one could only buy in wholesale from those Chinese and Korean companies, am I right?

For Kovea – definitely not. They are now working very hard to be an international stove company in their own right. Finding an outlet may be more difficult however.
For China – yes there is a small problem. However, there are middlemen in China who are trying. Finding them …

Cheers
