This jacket seems intriguing. It's fairly light from picking it up (maddenly, REI often leaves off the weight in their specs on the website!), mostly made of eVent, but has a meshy-type fabric running from around the armpit down on the side, which I assume would breathe fabulously. I almost bought one today, ($169), had it in my hands, but decided against it because it didn't have a hood. Still, intriguing.

I worry about the underarm area — would it get you wet in a very strong rain where it comes in sideways?
I purchased this jacket for running in/threat of rain. I also liked it for work walks, and day-hikes.
One other poster stated that he uses a non-hooded jacket with a rain hat for greater vision and flexibility.
I liked that approach and adopted it. Makes a great windbreaker/rain protector, matched with a OR Sombrero hat.
I have not ever "over-cooked" in it, seemed to be good at breathing.
