Hi all, so I'm cooking up some chaps to go on my legs (poncho on top).

I can't seem to decide if I want them to go over my boots (so I don't have to deboot when it starts raining), or if they would be a more slender fit.

The over the boot option seemed like a neat idea, but (by the sample I basted up) I think they're gonna be too bulky and too swishy.

Any ideas/gentle nudging in either direction? I'm thinking the deboot option might be the best fit, but darnit I don't wanna hafta deboot!

Hi Jon,
I use a pair of chaps with my poncho and they fit over my shoes. Yes, this probably makes them a bit bulkier but I think the ease of being able to pull them on and off with footwear is worth the extra ounce or so.

Other reasons for the larger fit…

– A slimmer fit will be hotter (less air flow) as you will reduce the bellow (air flow) effect.

– If you make them too slim, the rain will filter into your shoes.

that's my 0.02 :)

Thank you Steven, those are both excellent points, and what I needed to hear. Cheers!
