Can anyone recomend a decent backpacking/travel mirrow that will not break and give me 7 years of bad luck?
I also would like to be able to see clearly.

TIA,

AC

I use the ones from the sporting goods stores.I think Walmart has them also. The are plastic and will strach up over time but they only cost a dollar or two. I cut my down to 2×2. once cut down the only weight about 10 grams.

Coughlan’s makes cheapo stuff that’s adequate. I have something similiar, polished metal that I cut in half that weighs about .75 oz. It’s a bit scratched, but I can see enough to put in my contacts.

+1 on the sighting compass. I have a silva ranger–2.4 oz. compared with .9 oz for silva's basic polaris model. But that gives me a 2.5 x 2.5" mirror (for signaling and monitoring beard growth), small magnifying glass, adjustable declination, clinometer and superb accuracy for cross-country navigation.

The brand of "Xmas tree" brushes I use for my braces comes with a flexible nice quality mirror. Due to having to use said brushes when hiking, I have tucked one into my dental kit. Extremely light and they have a good finish.

I too use a compass with a sighting mirror. It's a very simple and lightweight compass, a Recta DS40, just 1.5 oz. I don't usually use the mirror for taking bearings but even if I never did it would still be kind of multipurpose because deploying the compass makes the plastic base longer which is very useful for working with the map. I mean, the extra length would be nice to have even if there's no mirror there.
