Looking for a comfortable day pack for day hikes 25 miles or longer. 1,200-1,500 cubic inch capacity, good for hydration system, very stable, light weight, with hip belt pockets. What does everyone recommend?

I have the smaller version of this REI pack for trail running. I like it for what it is. It hits most of your points but it’s heavy for the size. And being one-size-fits-all, long torso people need not apply.

I’d say get a Zero from zpacks if Joe wasn’t on the PCT till November.

I have a Salomon Raid REVO 20 that I love.

I have a Häglöfs Tight Pro which I use since five years. Not UL at 840g for the 25l pack, but mightily comfortable. Very stable, hydration system, but no hipbelt pockets.

Otherwise, and I have no experience with this pack, maybe an ULA Conduit could be something for you? It has hipbelt pockets, a total volume of 3,200 cu in, it is light with 17oz and cheap ($100). If you like it, order before Friday as ULA closes down for the fall hiking seasons from August 1st. till December 1st.

Adventure racing packs are known for being light, functional, and stable.

Check out http://www.argear.com for a pretty decent selection. I also heard some good things about the Gregory Iso, if you find one around.

The Osprey Talon 22 is the best day-pack I have ever used. My UL brother-in-law uses one for 3-4 day trips.

No hip pockets, but I am using a GG Murmur for just about everything (if I can get all my gear in it on longer trips). 7.5 oz and under $100.

My Blast is great for day hiking, though its hardware is somewhat fragile. As noted above you'll have to wait until Christmas. Not ultralight (not light at all) but my Mystery Ranch Mountain Monkey is absolutely the most comfortable and functional day pack I've ever worn.

My favorite day pack is the Flash 18 from REI. It really is awesome. It has some pockets inside for cell phone and other small stuff, a camel back pouch, and a really nice closing opening feature. I use it as a stuff sack in my big bag to double as a day pack for taking day hikes during a trek.

Talon 11 or 22, no question. Both are amazingly stable and give great access to snacks and gear. The 11 is probably big enough for all but the most clothing intensive shoulder season day hikes.

I just got back from an overnight in Glacier using my Talon 22.
