You see Chad, John is laughing at you, not with you.
You really should just stop. You're digging yourself quite a hole here. And being clingy and aggressive won't get you what you want. Didn't you learn anything from our couples counseling?
Still, I'll try to be a good sport:
'RAMAPO-DUNDERBERG TRAIL, NY: The route was suggested by by Maj. William Welch, superintendent of Bear Mountain-harriman Park. It was blazed in November 1920 by NY-NJ Trail Conference volunteers. Ramapo is said to be an Algonquin word for "many ponds". It also has been described as meaning "a river into which empties a number of ponds". Other spellings include "Ramspook" and "Ramapough".'
The rest is here: http://tinyurl.com/nndv2d
Now this etymology lesson is over, okay babe? As over as you and me. Please try to accept that. If you keep this up, you're going to spoil the memories. Accordingly, should you have any further issues with my screen name, please take them up with the NY-NJ Trail Conference. I just like the trail, you know? I don't really care what the word means.
Also, I've put your things to the curb. You should really come pick them up. Just a little bit ago the neighborhood homeless were all rumaging through your panties. I wouldn't want them to find your diary or, worse yet, your jack rabbit. You'll be needing that now.
Heck, I like the Ramapo fellow. Good to see someone on here with some balls.
I agree the prices are not good and if BPL doesn't want to compete with other retailers then they can just keep loosing sales.
John is laughing at me?! Really? Oh well I guess if I ever meet the guy I’ll never be able to live that down. Oh wait, yeah I will.
I am sorry for misinterpreting your screen name. To be fair though the word has three different origins and meanings depending on which source you look at, Mahwah, Algonquin, or New York State. I was only familiar with the Mahwah and New York state usages.
That being said you still come off as an insecure small boy who attempts to act tough and make up for his diminutive size by spewing homophobic insults. Might I suggest you get a bit of counseling to raise your self esteem and go out backpacking on your favorite trail?
Play nice, people. Please.

I have to agree with that. I’ve never really seen BPL as a supplier of gear though . . . too little in sock, not a good variety. To me BPL is an online magazine providing information about lightweight backpacking that happens to sell some gear.
This thread is flaming! (In more ways than one.)
Oh plaeezzee! (said with limp wristed wave) LOL
This thread could be sold as Ultralight Firestarter! Why do people have to argue about anything that is arguable? :)
BPL is a corporation but I wish it was a co-op. IMO, REI and MEC are corporations legally masquerading as Co-operatives. Your money (or lack of) and your ethics (or lack of) are yours alone. I don't think there is a right answer or winning argument here.
Me, homophobic?
I always suspected you were uncomfortable with what we had, but this…
I'm at a loss for words. You cut me deep Chad, real deep.
*sniff* *whimper*
Oh it's ok. . .(pat, pat) You'll find someone new and be just fine.
Oh uh by the way you may want to go to the doctor and get yourself checked out. You know that rabbit of mine you threw out, well it may have herpes simplex 10. That's why it was in a box out in the garage.
>>I don't think there is a right answer or winning argument here.
Unless I wanted to argue that Chad is bad speller/typist.
Some of his greatest hits:
– "Preice match. . . "
– "Advice and conveyance . . ."
– "BPL's 'shop' is a convent way to locate items" [Again, i think he meant "convenience", but he could have been talking about a convent full of nuns.]
– "It's all about paying for convince." [Again with "convenience". Come on Chad, sound it out. Use your words, big guy. Or did you mean "convincaroo", which, I believe is the Algonquin word for "Yes, I am a female dog"?]
– "No don't become like REI with all their fishable chic outdoor clothing.."
– "I joined to for articals and online information."
And then there is my screen name which he "chose" to spell incorrectly because he "misinterpreted" it…like, ten times.
That's an air-tight case. A winning argument if you will.
Can't we get back to something more productive here, like arguing about guns and stuff…?
That might be a good idea, John.
After all, an insecure, diminutive boy like myself can't be too careful.
What if Chad violates the restraining order?
What do you suggest I carry, John?
I'm a gentle soul, really, so…maybe a taser.
A taser could be multiuse gear too. If I combine it with my nipple clamps anyway.
Actually I did spell Rampo that way on purpose but only because I've been working on a Naive American interpretive center in that area for the last three months. We had originally spelled it as 'Ramapo' but the tribe informed us that Ramapo is the 'white man’s spelling' and that the correct Native usage is 'Rampo’. I figured the native Mahwah tribe knew what they were talking about.
Now other than that I admit I am poor at spelling. That and my new version of MS word had the auto spell check turned on. Grr, that dang thing is annoying as hell. Let me know when I’ve misspelled something but don’t just change if for me without letting me know you’re doing it.
It's all good, Chad. Seriously.
The office is slow lately and I've just been having fun. But I'm going to go learn how to work on my bike now, so…peace.
If you're ever in NY, let me know. We'll go climbing at the Gunks.
I promise I won't drop you. On purpose. ;)
I don't know, I'm a rather big guy. . .Just try and slow down my rapid decent before I smack those famous Gunk’s ledges and it will all be good! (I bounce!)
So do you think we've done a good enough job to liven up the site? :)
Looks like this is headed for a romantic weekend getaway at Camp Slime.
"I don't know, I'm a rather big guy. . .Just try and slow down my rapid decent before I smack those famous Gunk’s ledges and it will all be good! (I bounce!)"
Brokeback Mountain all over again…
"BPL is a corporation but I wish it was a co-op. IMO, REI and MEC are corporations legally masquerading as Co-operatives."
I agree with you Rich. MEC has changed drastically in the last 5- 10 years since they had their big expansion and started selling/stocking more womens clothing than anything else in their store.
There was a time however when their retail prices on climbing gear were very competitive. When our membership dollars went to support small scale cottage industries (Serratus – RIP, Arcteryx…before they got huge) and when they were making some very cool clothing (Northern Lite pullover)
"Tom you're not suggesting McHale packs are heavy are you? ;-)".
Nah, just that if you're packin' big iron, ya gotta have a holster to match. McHales are up to the task. ;}
On a serious note McHale packs were on the low end of heavy for years. They were designed to carry heavy loads comfortably and stand up to a lot of abuse. I climbed for years in one of Dan's Alpines, 1 or 0 I can't remember now, but it was ~ 3000 c.i. and carried up to 45# or so very comfortably. It was also bombproof; it had to be to survive climbing in the Cascades. But it weighed ~4#, heavy for a 3000 c.i. pack but worth every once, IMO. Many of Dan's packs are still on the heavy side for modern tastes, but that is a conscious design choice on his part. I understand he is starting to make much lighter packs as well. Stay tuned. If you can afford it, you can be sure his lighter packs will have the same legendary carrying characteristics and durability, relative to their peers, that his heavier packs have had for so many years.
Now, back to the main attraction. :)

You missed the party; everyone sobered up, found their car keys and went home.
