Sorry – long.

Been trying to put something together mostly for hunting as a survival/comfort pack. I have been using a small day pack with just a normal survival kit in it. Problem is try to sling a rifle over your shoulder with a backpack strap is not too comfortable, so I thought I would see if I could cram an entire summer+ backpack overnight kit into a Fanny pack. One of those deals where I might just want to stay out for an entire night.

Found Kelty convertable Cardinal packs on sale at Sunnys and at $15 so I figured why not since I can always extend it into a backpack. Weighs 18oz.
I plan to add a back pocket to it, but thats about it.

Size is about 10x8x7

Water will go in the side pockets via 2 1 qt platys.

Food will go into the new back pouch or stuffed inside if its small enough.

If I am going to use it strictly for survival only the sleeping bag, themorest and a few other odds and ends will stay home.

Weighs 5-#5oz dry.

I could easily shave 1# off the weight by dropping some of the comfort items and building a lighter pack, which I probably will do.

Pictures….

First off is the bag. Made it for under $20. On sale super light nylon from walmart and 3/8″ polyfill from Joann on sale. Velcro foot area with a web and a drawstring foot box. You can completely open it up or close the footbox, vent the foot box etc. This was a test run for the real deal with materials from thruhiker, but I like it for a super thin summer bag. I live in the SE so it never gets too cold at night in the summer so its fine for that. Need to add some straps to the upper part.
