Brunton Suunto MC-2 Bezel

Only the compass with the global needle has the luminous bezel. I found that annoying as well, although I don't think that I have ever really needed to use the 360 deg marks in the dark. The non-global needle still has the luminous points in the combass capsule itself.

Interestingly enough, the glow & non-glow bezels are interchangeable and can be switched out easily.

Thanks for the link, though amazon and a few other sites do show it with a luminous bezel. It's also listed in the specs. False advertising, i reckon'.

Seems to be outdated on the Brunton site, so can't tell really who's correct.

More importantly I'm interested in whether the feature is necessary. So far that's one for no. Thanks!

Not necessary in the slightest.

The big question is when would you use this feature ? Are you night hiking without a headlamp for stealthy reasons ? If so, a red lens in your headlight works much much much better than glowing dots. Also, for navigating anything but wide-open spaces, you'll need to reference your map regularily – so you'll need the headlamp anyway.

ps
The military (tritanium ?) versions actually glow, but the ones you charge with your flashlight aren't very bright, and aren't bright for very long.
