Has anyone here tried the Exped
Waterbloc range of Sleeping bags.
http://www.exped.com

They make the claim on their website
"Bivy sack and sleeping bag in one: features of a sleeping bag and bivy bag together, but overall less weight, pack size, cost and condensation."

Undoubtedly the waterproofing would be fine in moist conditions under shelter, but was wondering if anyone has been keen enough to use just the bag without any other shelter out in the weather?

Could work out a few oz cheaper then a bivy bag + normal bag.

I have not tried them, though I have tried similar Goretex versions. The problems are several fold for me:

-packing my bag with a wet outer shell was a disaster. If the day warmed up, the moisture got pushed back through the membrane and made the down damp

-Exped bags are not really UL by my standards…a 1250g bag with a women's comfort rating of +3 C/37 F (and 750g fill down) is not impressive, even with a waterproof cover.

-The Expeds use Endurance fabric, which is not truly 'waterproof'. It claims a hydrostatic head of 1,000mm, compared to something like eVent fabric with a hydrostatic head of 30,000mm…I have had my Endurance bivy bag wet-out from moderate but steady rain.
