Has anyone purchased the new Primus ETAPackLite stove system? "Outdoors Magic", the Brit website, reviewed it and found it to be very efficient.

It may give JetBoil a run for its money and send MSR back to the drawing board.

Personally I'd like to see Primus make it so the gas canister could be inverted for colder weather camping but otherwise it looks like the best bet for a 2 person system.

The next REAL match-up for fuel efficient stove systems will be a JetBoil/ETAPackLite face-off.

After looking over the Primus ETA PackLite I offer these suggestions:

1. Eliminate all plastic dishes & substitute a light nylon stuffsack for articles to be stored in the pot. Use a Cool Whip bowl if ya like bowls. Been using one for decades.

2. Substitute an aluminum lid for the plastic one.

3. lighten the burner base W/ holes

4. So we REALLY need all that copper burner preheating tubing?? Other quality remote canister stoves don't require that much.

5. Invert the canister on a very lightweight stand for better cold weather cooking.

The burner tube may be a little large, but I didn't think the preheat tube was that big. Besides, it's a bit hard to see how you could safely reduce the length of the preheat tube and still have it effective.

It's actually a fairly good stove.

Thanks for the top shot of the burner Roger. I hadn't seen that in the manufacturer's photos. I guess Primus did lighten the burner stand quite a bit.

I like the PAckLite's serrated pot rests. I had to file small V notches in the wire pot rests of my MSR Dragonfly multi fuel stove.

The burner is quite different than that on my Primus-made Brunton Flex burner. I wonder why.

Hi Eric

Ahhh … are you sure about that?
The Brunton Flex is exactly the same stove as the Optimus Crux, and I have reason to believe these were made in a little Chinese factory …

A near identical version may be seen at
