This is not UL related so I wasn’t sure if I should post here or in Chaff … so I flipped a coin.

Long long ago on an internet far far away … there was a UseNet NewsGroup called rec.backcountry. During the summer of 1993 its readers were treated to a serial account of an AT thru hike by a hiker named Gerry Gladu, trailname moonshot.

Moonshot wrote postcards every day or so and mailed them to a friend who posted them to rec.backcountry one at a time. It was almost like getting the postcards myself … and helped keep the spark of interest in backcountry travel alive in my heart.

I recently found those postings on a website MoonShot’s AT Hike

Totally cool..in '93, I was just finishing grade 9 and wondering when I would become an astronaut.

Wish they had scanned the postcards – did they have scanners back then?

Thanks for the link. :)
