I want to purchase a MLD Patrol Shelter which, with a MLD lightweight bivy, will be a part of my sleep system. I plan to sleep out under the stars and want the Patrol Shelter for bad weather protection only. On clear nights, I don't even plan to set it up.

I am a 3 season solo hiker who typically hikes on the JMT, in the Wind River Range area, and in Colorado. This will be my first attempt at a tarp and bivy as I have used a Squall II Tarptent in the past. I have chosen the Patrol Shelter over the Grace Solo as I heard the Patrol will be a little easier to set up and will give me a little more protection given it has an closed and fixed back end.

Given my specifics, are there any real differences between the Spinntex fabric and the Cuban fiber other than I"m saving 1.5 oz and spending $90 out of pocket for the Cuban fiber.

I know many members of this forum use various products made from both these fabrics and I'm hoping to get any added info about the pluses or minuses of each fabric – if such info exists.

Is it really just as simple as a little weight saving for money spent? Thanks in advance!
