    Came across this old manual on camping and walking in 1877, on Project Gutenberg. Pretty interesting techniques and equipment. The gear list will probably make most of you cringe! Check it out.

    The book East of The Divide deals with early explorations in the North Cascades, there is a chapter about a single woman ,Miss Wheeler, renting a mule and traveling for 40 some days alone in the North Cascades. That was an excellant link.
