I am hoping that a few of you can help me out.

I’m looking for a detachable side pocket that will fit a water bottle, preferable a 48 ounce soft sided canteen type. My hope is to use this pocket on my Osprey Talon 33 pack for weekend trips. I’ve seen a few patters for products in the MYOG section of this site but unfortunately I do not have access to a sewing machine.

Thanks for your help!

Only thing I've ever seen like that came on the Kelty 50th Anniversary external frame. Doesn't Osprey make an add on pocket like that?

Well Osprey makes an add water bottle holster like this:
pocket

I'm looking more for a pocket like this:
Pocket 2

Granite Gear has side pockets but they are zip closed and not sure if that would work with a bottle. Arcteryx had some specific for water a few years ago.

There is also the discontinued Marmot Wet Rib as well, although it has a pocket and water holster and is designed to attached to either side of your shoulder straps and sit sort of beside your ribs, hence the name. I have one brand new that I have never used. If you are interested…..

Yeah the Granite Gear pockes wouldn't work that great. I'm trying to find a pocket that will let me gain access to my water without taking off my pack.

I suppose if I could find someone here who wouldn't mind doing a bit of custom sewing for me I would be more than willing to pay for the service.

Never mind.
Didn't catch that you wanted a soft pocket for a hard bottle.

My (deleted) solution was for a platy with a drink tube.

I have a talon 33 and I just cut off the compression straps that cover the side pockets on the sides; they now are good for a nalgene or platy even when the pack is fully loaded.

edit: It can be a little tough to get the nalgene in an out while moving but I have no problem with a 1LT platy.

Yeah I'm looking for a pocket that will allow me to gain access to a soft sided water canteen with relative ease.

I’ve used the pockets on the Talon 33's sides before for smaller 20 ounce bottles and found it a pain to get them in and out.

No I’m looking for a soft sided pocket for a soft sided water container. I'd like to hear about your platy with a drink tube idea.

Chad,
I see the pack has pockets at the bottom and a bungee keeper on the strap near the lid.

See if this has merit –

Take a hot nail and bore a hole in the excess material near the bottom of the bladder. Tie a short loop of cord to the hole, then use a mini-biner to clip the cord to the bungee keeper. The pocket will stabilize the bottom of the bladder and the top attachment will keep it from flopping around.

Run the hose however you can.

I have done this on a GG Vapor Trail with a 3L platy using the top compression strap as my upper attachment point.

Get everything in front of you and stare at it for a while. Good Luck.

Thanks for the link!

I took a look at the page but couldn't find what I was looking for. Nice products though (as always with McHale packs).

I'm not sure if anyone else has indicated an interest in the wet rib, but I am interested in it. Please let me know what you are wanting to get for it. Thanks! (I'm headed to Norway in July, and having access to a water bottle in that location would be really good- and storage for my camera too!)
