I don't know if I grew or if the tent end walls are starting to fold in but my old freestanding tent, a Alps Mountaineering Taurus 1, now longer fits my length so I am looking for another. I already know about the Tarptent Rainbow, Double Rainbow and Scarp but are there any other lightweight freestanding tents out there that can be used by someone 6'5"? Thanks.

Which sleeping bag do you use and what size?

Just the job.
I'm 6' 8" and I use a Gatewood Cape. Not freestanding but only 11oz.
Currently I have a Western Mountaineering Caribou Long and a Marmot Helium Long.
Brett – you know, an MSR Hubba Solo would work. I am not as tall as you but use a similar long bag. But I am wide with a 48" chest. I have used the Hubba in the past without any feelings of snug-ness (I think it has to do with the mesh inner and being able to see outside of the inner tent) and without my bag touching either end, although admittedly not much room to spare. Not light, but double walled, freestanding, and relatively bomb-proof for 3 season. Plus you will have not issue sitting up in it and will not have any condensation to deal with. Decent pricing as well.
Obviously the Rainbow is another choice but you give up noticeable vestibule space, it is a single wall, and is only freestanding with poles.
Since I side sleep and sometimes go a bit fetal I don't think the 26" width of the Hubba Solo will work but thank you.
maybe see if any tall guys have tried the scarp 1 with crossing poles

diagram would suggest it would work
Brett – I side sleep too. The width is closer to 28 but is 32 at the top. You might be surprised. I was.
How does that 86" length work out. The Taurus I was using was 97" and although the Hubba walls look steeper I don't know if the 9" play will work.
And there is the Golite Utopia 1 but it looks like that barely breathes at all.
My long bag did not touch either end but if I squirmed in the night I might move down or up and bunch up the bag a bit. I would say usable length is something like 84" – the walls are pretty steep.
The Utopia does not have a cross pole at the top – I would be concerned with rubbing my shoulders everytime I sat up….
…
I tried a Seedhouse about 2 years ago and it doesn't have the length but thanks.
The Hubba has the advantage of the end walls being nearly vertical, which makes more of its length useable. There is a glowing review on backpackgeartest.org of the Seedhouse SL2 by a guy who claims to be 6'3 (same as I am), but I've tried it myself in a store, and found it rather tight. As far as I can tell, the 84-88" tents generally have only 6' of useable space once you take into account the slope of the walls. Then you add an inch or so of loft in your sleeping bag on either end, and you've simply got to go fetal or get your long bag wet against the tent walls. Again, this is ameliorated by the Hubba's vertical design, but I've found I need over 90" in a tent if I don't want my long sleeping bag to rest against both ends.
On a side note, I'm here at Trail Days in Damascus, VA today, and I liked what I saw from the Six Moons tarptents. They're quite roomy indeed.
REI carries a tent and they are the only ones who sell it. It is called the Vapor light XL. it is 93 inches long and is pretty light for it being a free standing tent. i bought one but have not set it up yet. i am a tall guy and liked the length of the TT DR but wanted a more sturdy free standing tent. check it out here: http://www.rei.com/product/779217
