I just got a new GG Latitude Vapor after having tried on my dad's Nimbus Meridian and loving it (I wanted something just a little lighter and simple.) The Nimbus Meridian is a size Regular (18"-22") and the torso adjustment is on the longest setting – It feels absolutely wonderful, sits great on my hips and distributes the weight nicely. I ordered a Latitude Vapor in size Regular and it finally arrived today. I tried it on and immediately it felt a little small. I loosened all the straps, sat the waist belt on my hips and pulled it snug. When I cinched down the shoulder straps to pull the pack snug against my back, I immediately realized the weight transferring to my shoulders instead. I put roughly 20lbs in it and it wasn't very comfortable at all. I measured my torso to be sure and I am roughly 22.5".

I really like the design of the Latitude Vapor so I am thinking of getting a Long. I just wanted to make sure this sounds like the right solution, as this is my first UL pack. I've been previously using a Dana Design Terraplane LTW (size M) and it has been such a wonderful pack – extremely comfortable and able to carry a ton of weight. I'm just not starting to get into the whole UL thing and I've found BPL the best resource on the web.

I'm just looking for some comments and opinions about my situation before I decide to sell my new pack and get a larger size.

Thanks,
Collin

Yes, get a long. When Granite Gear says 21" is the top end of a regular with the Vapor suspension, they mean it. You'll be much more pleased with the longer one.

Also, where did you get it, most places will let you exchange sizes if it doesn't fit.

Colin,
I have both of these packs in a regular and they both work for me. I'm probably more in the middle of the torso range as opposed to the high end like you. A long might be the ticket for you.

Even though both packs work very well, I do have to say the the Meridian sure works well with a little heavier load. I use this pack when I take the kids and have to carry some extra gear.

FYI, I continue to reduce my pack weight and have moved to a Jam2 this year and really like it. Nothing against the Granite Gear packs and I would rate them very highly. Just getting my weight down and can take advantage of a lighter pack.
