I am thinking of getting a NeoAir when I can find one to reduce weight but that 16" of usable width might not be enough for my 6'5" side sleeping frame. Can anyone confirm if it is much less than its 20" posted width because I barely fit onto 20" wide pads as it is. Thanks.

Right now I am using a Montbell Camp 180 pad because I am a side sleeper and need that 1.5" so I can let a little bit of air out and still not bottom out. I slide right off the Big Agnes and POE stuff and the Montbell is cheaper and lighter then the Thermarest Prolite Plus regular. I wish I could go for the Thermarest Prolite Plus short but I need at least 55" to give my knees something to rest on.

Brett – I'm 5'10" 150 lbs so I'm about your polar opposite in body size. However, I measured the NeoAir against my BA IAC and they were nearly identical in width. Laying on it I didn't feel I was sliding/rolling off to the sides much at all. In kayak-speak I'd say the NeoAir has great initial stability. Not sure if that helps at all but there's my $.02.

The size large NeoAir is 25" wide by 77" long, but I believe I read on the NeoAir thread that they won't be any larges in stock until the end of summer.

I know the large would be able to fit me pretty much no matter what. I am just trying to see if the regular or medium would be possible though. The Big Agnes mentioned before doesn't give a whole lot of width either.

Is it possible for someone to measure a medium or regular for usable width?

I'm about to leave to pick up my small NeoAir which just arrived at the nearest REI. I plan to compare it to my POE Insulmat Max Thermo (predecessor of the Ether Thermo) as part of my own home testing. Later today, I'll respond back on this one.

EDIT: Sorry, something came up (plus torrential rain, which I'd prefer not to drive in unless I have to), so it will be early next week before I can report in.

I have also thought about Stephenson's DAM but since it uses a similar construction to the BA and POE stuff I thought I would probably slide right off it also.

I am 6’3” and a major side-sleeper. I cannot sleep on my back unless tranquillized by large amounts of adult beverages. And then I will snore so bad my wife will make sure that I sleep no more than she does…

I have the NeoAir regular and was expecting to dis it. I have only been able to use it three times as I am testing another pad for BGT. I am very used to fitting myself on a Big Agnes Mummy shaped pad so it may not be surprising to say that I have no problem fitting on the Neo. I flop over all night long, even at home. I have learned to do it in place. But I have not noticed any propensity to “fall off” the Neo.

I will say that the three nights I have used it I was forced to stay on the pad by the length of the tent I was in as it would not allow me to stretch out. But it is pretty rare for me to flip on my stomach and stretch out while backpacking. Only when the temps get up.

I'm a side, back and front sleeper (5'11") and no problems in staying on the regular NeoAir at all.

Keep in mind that the original review was made with a pre-production version of the NeoAir. It was, apparently, made wider before they started selling it.

My medium is 20 inches in width. Haven't tested it all night yet. I'm not worried about falling off as much as freezing – bought an 1/8th inch thinlite to go with it – tho that's pretty thin! Barbara
