Repair Quantum?

I made about the same size holes on my Featherlite. I used 2 small squares of Scotch translucent tape to patch mine[the grey-ish kind, not the clear kind]. I place one square on either side, and they have held for me through 2 hand-washings. It may also work for Quantum, as I imagine the fabrics are similar. I lose points points for aesthetics, but at least it’s on the inner elbow and not too apparent.

Has anyone done any other repairs than using scotch tape? What sort of glues stick to Quantum? Could I glue on a small circle of sil-nylon to patch up the whole?

I’ve done this on tents with great results. Stick a piece of tape on the underside of the hole, then dab/smear a very thin layer of seam sealer (I think I used a McNett product). If you want a more tidy looking result, tape a small square dam around the hole before doing this, but be sure and remove it before the sealer sets. In the end it will look like a very small clear flexible square. If the hole was big enough to leave an actual hole and not just a flap, it will look like a tiny clear window.

Does that make sense?

A couple of thoughts in addition to the suggestions:

Call any reputable manufacturer’s warranty department that has quantum products. Usually you will find knowledgable cool people willing to help. Also, if REI sells the product, you can take it in to them and they will repair it…or so I was told with a Mountain Hardware product I bought there. I had asked how to repair a small hole in the shell…and the sales person said just bring it in so we can make sure it is done right.

I was told by the guys at Nunatak that the company that manufactures Pertex Quantum filed bankruptcy. Has anyone else heard anything? It’s a great fabric, hate to see it go away.
