I'm new to this site and to backpacking in general and have enjoyed reading all the great reviews I've found since joining (I especially like Will Rietveld's style).

My question is, is there a way to filter the reviews by the "Overall Rating" they are given?

For a new person this would be helpful in identifying stand-out gear. It's entirely possible the answer has been right under my nose (I tend to miss the obvious things).

Thank you

Hi David, welcome aboard.

I don't know if you can filter the reviews that way, but that's a good idea.
Lucky for you, I own all the best gear and all you have to do is look at my gearlist in my profile and buy the exact same stuff! ;)

David,

Not only can you Not do meaningful search, but you have to be really good just to Find the Gear Reviews section.

In the Menu, first go to Articles, select Gear, then look at the right side of your screen for Read Gear Reviews, and then select In-Depth Reviews. A newbie has to get lucky to discover these gems.

Then, one by one, start reading.

Because the terms Recommended and Highly Recommend are often used in each article ("We didn't give a Highly Recommended because…) targeting "Highly Recommended" is difficult, even with a good search engine.

Yep, I tried some interesting searches from various pages on this site and wasn't able to figure out a combination that got me the reviews I was looking for. However, following your directions I've found the "In-Depth" reviews and I'll have fun reading through them all. It should only take about 6 months. :-)
