I would like to do a 7-month hike in the US in a couple of years, starting in March and ending in September. We love high mountains and rough terrain, rather than walking for miles and miles. The Rockies, the Sierra Nevada and the Cascades most appeal to us for the moment.
For our winter part, we are looking for a suitable area with mountains (Rockies…) where we could do a long snowshoe hike with tent, and resupplying after 7-10 days and drying our gear.
We have followed two mountain courses in avalanche safety here in Europa (in the Alps) and we would of course make sure that we are well informed about the (changing) local snow conditions.
Does anybode have some suggestions of a good area? We would also take each a set of crampons and an axe, in the case that slopes are very icy.
Thanks for your help.
