    Anybody know a way from Chicago Basin to Sunlight lake, just north and east of it, that is Class 2 terrain or an easy Class 3 with a pack? I don't want to climb Sunlight peak or Windom Peak, I'm trying to get there through a saddle or col.

    @weegie5

    Locale: Colorado Rockies

    Let me start by saying that I have not (yet) been to Chicago Basin, but I have planned a trip there to climb Sunlight, Windom, and Eolus (that eventually fell through). What I know about the Sunlight climb is that there is one Class 4 move required to get onto the (very airy) summit block and everything up to that is class 3 at worst.

    If you don't plan on summitting, then don't worry about anything more difficult than class 3. The Sunlight route described on 14ers.com takes you to the saddle between Chicago Basin and the Sunlight Lake/Creek basin. Just pick a route down to Sunlight Lake from there.

    Sunlight Peak, Windom Peak, Mt. Eolus, Chicago Basin, Weminuche Wilderness, CO

    If you're looking for a free look at the topo map(s) of the area, try mapmyrun.com.

    EDIT: added picture
