So how do I apply a new DWR finish?? Riddle me that.
FYI, Sierra designs says the same thing about certain of their rain gear. See http://www.sierradesigns.com/mens.care.html #7 about halfway down the page.

Low heat iron? Perhaps even with a damp cloth in between…
My two Arcteryx Gamma MX jackets make the same claim- and the DWR sucks and so needs reapplication often. I would spray one down with DWR while damp, and the other I threw in the dryer on low heat for 10-20 minutes. After doing this for a few years, the one i never put in the dryer decided to delaminate… go figure.
You can try something like Tectron Durable Water Repellant Treatment which I don't believe requires any heat to set it. There are probably other heatless treatments out there, too.

A very common cause for the DWR not working is that the fabric is not really clean enough beforehand. But just 'washing' the fabric may not work either.
Read the technical discussions at Atsko (for instance http://www.atsko.com/articles/clothing-care/proper-care-of-waterproof.html) for more information about why DWR does not stick to dirty fabrics.
Cheers
I have a 10-year-old Red Ledge jacket with the same label which badly needs washing. (I don't backpack with it but use it around home and for dayhikes.) I plan to dry it in the dryer on low heat (which, in my dryer, is definitely warm and not hot) and see what happens. I'll report back!
Thanks Mary!
…on tumble drying your jacket?
