Ok, I’ve seen many offhand comments that spandex content will affect drying time (generally in fleece and soft-shell type fabrics, at contents from 2-12%).

But does it? If so, how? My rough weighing tests show it doesn’t affect the weight of water absorbed, which agrees with my reading of this thread. And surely this is the main determinant of drying time.

Spandex, Lycra, Elastane – all generally the same thing.

I was wearing Lycra while skiing one time and it rained. The Lycra got wet. I put on a rain jacket (of course) and kept going. About 15 minutes after the rain stopped I was dry.
(Well, yes, 'that' green outfit …)

I have also wrung wet fleece out, given it a shake, and put it back on. It seemed to keep working moderately well, and dried pretty quick. Infinitely faster than, say, wool!

Cheers
