Anybody know the size of the opening of a bearikade weekender and the Garcia. I'm thinking it would be nice to fit the pot into the canister once I have eaten enough food to make room. I'm debating between the Firelite 1100 and the evernew .9 liter and thinking the evernew would be easier to pack in the canister because of it's wider and shorter shape.

What do you guys do with your pot in bear country? In Denali they recommend setting on top to make noise if your canister is disturbed. Would rather not have my pot get smashed in the middle of a trip.

I put the pot on top of the canister as described, but have never had the system tested. I assumed the bear would just knock the pot off to get canister where it knows there's food. It never occurred to me the bear might damage it. I guess there could be food smell left on the pot that might tempt the bear to give it a taste?

Aside from needing the pot to fit in the top opening, how much space would the pot actually take up. Food, etc, packs in and around it, so you're only losing the millimeters thickness of the walls/bottom, aren't you, so long as your food is somewhat malleable. Ramen not good for this, obviously.

I carried a GSI ~1 liter pot in my bearvault last summer and I never felt like I was losing much space.

Bearikade Expedition is 8.5" wide but there are three tabs that block full diameter access. 7" should work easily if you ca't tilt it and slip it past the tabs. The weekender is the same diameter, I think

I also have a Bearvault 500 – that's a 6.5" opening

I never put my pot into the canister. Just leave them out in the open. Bears are far too smart to waste their time on destroying your pot if it's empty. They don't bother with the Bearikade either, because they know it is pointless to try to get into these things.

Yes the Weekender and the Scout are the same diameter. The most your pot can be to fit is 7.25 in (18.4 cm)

While I don't worry about my pot being stolen/mangled…do tuck your spoon/spork in it at night. Chipmunks LOVE to snag them and haul them away to chew on.
