Choosing a Tarptent

I've been slowly acquiring new lightweight gear and am now down to choosing a new shelter – I'm going to go with something from Mr. Shires, but which one (solo shelter)? I've never used a tarp before, sticking to big company double-walled tents.

Trips I'm planning this season (June to Sept.ish in Canadian Rockies: Berg Lake Trail (Mt. Robson), Skyline Trail (Jasper), and one or 2 others around Jasper. I've never seen any tarps or tarptents on trips I've taken so far in the Rockies. I might also do the Juan de Fuca Trail on Vancouver Island in the fall.

I'll be sleeping on a Neoair with a down quilt, and I will have poles.

I like the looks and weight of the Contrail but is it suitable? I do like some privacy so would closing the beak be much of an issue for condensation – or should I just not worry about the condensation and deal with any that comes my way.

Or should I purchase the Scarp? It's roomy for one, very light for a tent but almost double the weight of the Contrail.

I considered the sublite sil but it looks like a tighter fit than the contrail (do like the side entry though).

My other concern is getting a proper pitch with a tarptent, considering strong winds, etc.

Any advice very welcome.

Aaron
